WordPress Guide for Beginners: How to Create a Website in WordPress!

The common and the foremost question you may have in your mind is what is WordPress? In simple words, WordPress is a way by which you can have your website or blog, being the simple and the most popular method. The websites you visit every day are most likely to be powered by WordPress. It is stated that more than 35.2% of the total websites on the internet are powered by WordPress; this is more than one in four websites.

From a technical point of view, WordPress Software is the CMS widely used among the public having a license from GPLv2 with an authority to the users to use or modify it for free. A content management system is a tool designed for managing your website by all means, and this specifically means managing your content without the use of programming.

To sum up, WordPress helps in building a website without you knowing developing or programming.

Categories of Websites on WordPress

Previously, WordPress was only used for blogging and there was no or less number of more traditional websites. But this trend quickly changed as WordPress came up with different core code and the use of different plugins and themes for creating any type of website on WordPress.

Like, you can have a blog or business site powered by WordPress, and to the biggest level, you can even create an eCommerce store on WordPress. The categories of WordPress website are:

  • Business websites
  • eCommerce stores
  • Blogs
  • Portfolios
  • Resumes
  • Forums
  • Social networks
  • Membership sites
  • And much, much more

WordPress.org and WordPress.com; The Difference Among The Two

Let’s take a glance over the two.

WordPress.org, more commonly called as self-hosted WordPress, you can use for free as open-source software. After installing it on your web host, you can create a website that will be called completely like yours.

WordPress.com is like a profitable or paid service owned by WordPress.org software. You feel little flexibility with this one as compared to the self-hosted WordPress.

So, when you hear just “WordPress” it means the self-hosted WordPress owned by WordPress.org. if you want to be the boss of your website, you may want this one. For that, you will need to purchase web hosting and have a domain name.

History of WordPress; Who Created it and When?

WordPress was created as an individual project in 2003, a subsidiary of the previous project i.e. b2/cafelog. Since it is open-source software, you can see it has now made a huge community of many contributors. But if you want to know about its roots and grounds, then it was created in a partnership of Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little.

After that, everyone knows Matt Mullenweg as the biggest man behind WordPress and also because of his creation Automattic, a company known for the services of the for-profit WordPress.com.

There is a lot more in the history of WordPress; from the day it was created and the day now, many things have changed and all in the positive terms. Now it is the most popular CMS for almost all types of websites, all that wouldn’t have been possible without its contributors and community.

Who Does Use WordPress?

WordPress is widely used by many individuals, businesses, and you can say everyone uses it. Since I mentioned earlier, almost every website is powered by WordPress, so, here are some of them.

1.      Whitehouse.gov

The official website of Whitehouse i.e. White.house.gov is powered by WordPress.

2.      Microsoft

Microsoft has WordPress supporting its official blog and also for its particular products like Windows and Skype.

3.      The Rolling Stone

Not just that, the biggest names and brands, like The Rolling Stone also are powered by WordPress.

Reasons You Should be Using WordPress

So, it is quite clear now that the famous names like White House and Microsoft are using WordPress very fondly and above 35.2% of the entire internet websites are powered by WordPress.

The answer to this question is a long one and you may find many reasons for using WordPress for any type of websites, we’ll be discussing some of the important points of it. Let’s check them.

·         WordPress: An Open-Source and It is Free

All other things would become secondary when it comes to the “free” label. That’s what WordPress is; it is free and open-source software. Of course, the hosting requires money but just using the WordPress software is out of such a thing. You could see the opposite in the case of alternatives like Squarespace.

Also, the software comes with various free plugins and themes to customize and change the look of your website as per your likings.

·         Extensibility

A solution to all the non-developers out there, you can change, modify, or customize your website with the available plugins and themes.

  • Themes: These change the look of your website.
  • Plugins: These make the functionality of your website better. It can be called as the contact form just as you required for creating an eCommerce store.

The free plugins and themes on WordPress are more than 50,000 and 5,000 respectively. Other than that, you can always choose the premium options in the future when your website grows more. So, let’s just say the choices are many.

·         Easy to Install

You don’t have to be a tech genius for using WordPress, just a click needed to install WordPress on your website.

Your web hosts would do either of the following things:

  • Already gives the pre-installed WordPress so we can say your website is already to be on the view.
  • It offers handy tools that make the WordPress installation part easier, especially for beginners.

·         Flexibility

As said earlier, WordPress is for any type of website, it caters to different categories. So, WordPress is pretty flexible; your website keeps on growing.

If you want to add a forum on your WordPress website, you can use the bbPress plugin, to add social network, use the BuddyPress plugin; it is just that simple.

You aren’t compelled to follow the same functions, you have a right to adapt and keep progressing.

·         WordPress Gives a Help Too

You can always take help and easily find it whenever you face any difficulty with WordPress. This can be from:

  • Blogs
  • Tutorials
  • Forums
  • Facebook Groups
  • Developers

You can see both the free and paid help.

WordPress? The Best Way to Create a Website!

In conclusion, we can confidently say that WordPress is the most popular and widely used platform to build any type of website, be it a blog or just an eCommerce store. It is indeed the best option so far.

Just keep in mind that self-hosted WordPress.org and WordPress.com are two different things. And when you want to build a website, you will need self-hosted WordPress.org that gives a bossy feeling with every benefit WordPress could offer.
