Zong and Jazz Face 5G Trials Suspension by the PTA!
With the 5G network has started to flourish throughout the country, the two leading mobile operators, Jazz and Zong 5G trials have been suspended by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). It is being stated that these two mobile networks have been charged with rules violations and false advertisement campaign.
Chairman PTA Major Gen (Retired) Amir Azeem Bajwa himself stated that 5G trials of Zong and Jazz have been suspended in the National Assembly Standing Committee while talking about the Information Technology and Telecommunication because of rules violation and promoting misleading campaign.
The committee held a meeting with Ali Khan Jadoon on Wednesday.
Sir Bajwa added that, as per the rule, before launching any advertisement campaign, every operator has to examine it through PTA, this rule is being violated in the case of Zong and Jazz providing a false appearance of 5G services being prevailed in the country.
In that response, PTA suspended the 5G trials initiated by Zong and Jazz. The suspension will be shifted away only after the misleading campaigns get rectified, Chairman PTA added.
Jazz and Zong responded to the event as follow:
“Zong 4G is a law-abiding entity and has always ensured complete adherence to all rules and regulations set by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Our regulatory teams are working closely with PTA to address all concerns.”
“Jazz is a law-abiding operator. We have not violated any 5G trial restrictions and will work with PTA to clarify the matter. It is imperative that trials be resumed so that Jazz can continue pushing its #DigitalPakistan agenda. Putting Pakistan on the global technology leadership map is a matter of swift timing and a collaborative regulatory environment.” Fakhar Ahmed – Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer
PTA had offered both the mobile operators a six months period to lead the 5G trials and tests but with the limited environment and there should be no commercial basis involved.
PTA, in connection with the policy directive of the government of Pakistan, has recently issued a “Framework for Test and Development of Future Technologies (Particularly Fifth Generation (5G) Wireless Networks in Pakistan)” to enable 5G trials and testing and such related services in Pakistan.
This is being the case that both PMCL (Jazz) and CMPak (Zong) are given a six months 5G trial period under a restricted environment with a non-commercial basis.
The official launch of 5th Generation services in Pakistan is soon to be done after all the processes related to policy directions by the Government of Pakistan and regulatory get approved.
